Profile

Dr. Vicente Guzmán Ríos holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Xochimilco, a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, and postgraduate studies in Housing and a Master's degree in Urbanism from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), as well as a Diploma in Contemporary Art from the Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia (ENAH).

He serves as a Full-Time Professor in the Division of Sciences and Arts for Design and teaches in the Graduate Program in Social Sciences and Humanities at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Xochimilco.

His research focuses on public space and housing. He is the author of several single-authored books, including Espacio público y paisaje. Hacia una grata forja imaginativa (2026); Mejoramiento, remozamiento y animación barrial. Propuesta estética gozosa (2020), which received the 2021 UAM Research Award; Revivir la vivienda en México. Cosas de casas y autoproducción (2013); Espacios exteriores. Plumaje de la arquitectura (4th ed., 2017); Voces, colores y formas Tlalpenses (2011); and Pequeviajantes del Barrio Mágico de San Agustín de las Cuevas (2015). He has authored peer-reviewed articles on landscape, spatial appropriation, identity, and urban aesthetic experience, and has delivered lectures and courses at university and cultural venues in Mexico and abroad.

In his artistic and professional practice, he is a watercolor artist, a founding member of the Mexican Association of Aesthetic Studies (Asociación Mexicana de Estudios en Estética), and a member of the World Council of Visual Artists and several international Urban Sketchers groups. He has held painting and photography exhibitions nationally and internationally, and engages in independent architectural practice through design and construction projects in Mexico City and across the country.
