Profile

Dr. Luis Fernando Guerrero Baca holds a Ph.D. in Design with a specialization in Conservation, a Master’s degree in Architectural Restoration, and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. He has been a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadoras e Investigadores (SNII) since 1998, where he holds the highest rank as Emeritus National Researcher.

He serves as a Full-Time Professor in the Department of Theory and Analysis within the Division of Sciences and Arts for Design at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Xochimilco, where he has been a faculty member since 1987.

His research focuses on architectural typology, archaeological heritage conservation, traditional construction systems, and sustainable earthen building. He has authored over 350 articles and book chapters in national and international publications, and delivered more than 450 lectures, courses, and workshops across Latin America, North America, Europe, and Africa. He is the author of Arquitectura de Tierra en México (1994), co-author of Después del sismo. Saberes tradicionales de la Mixteca Poblana: Estudios y experiencias (2021) and Experiencias de bioconstrucción. Conceptos generales y visiones desde México (2021), and editor of the Anuarios de Arquitectura (1999–2009) as well as several books on earthen architecture and bioconstruction.

In professional practice and international consultancy, he serves as a project advisor for the National Archaeology Coordination and the National Cultural Heritage Conservation Coordination of the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH). He is an international consultant for the evaluation of UNESCO World Heritage sites, a conservation advisor at archaeological sites including Chan Chan (Peru), Ingapirca (Ecuador), and Kaminaljuyú (Guatemala), and a member of both the PROTERRA Ibero-American Network and the UNESCO Chair on Earthen Architecture, Building Cultures and Sustainable Development.
